MOBILE SIGNAL AMPLIFICATION IN SMART BUILDINGS – MUST-HAVE OR NICE-TO-HAVE?

A study by WiredScore and EY shows that 65% of office users rate #connectivity in the workplace as very important. Along with Wi-Fi coverage, mobile phone coverage is increasingly becoming a must-have, especially in a #SmartBuilding . However, implementation is not trivial and carries risks.

What should be considered:

📵 Mobile communications only outdoors: Mobile network operators only guarantee outdoor coverage. Indoors, the connection is usually severely restricted by metallic-coated facade glazing and reinforced concrete.

📶 Why not just use Wi-Fi calling? As an alternative, Wi-Fi calling allows you to use your Wi-Fi network to make phone calls, provided your provider offers the service. And it does so seamlessly when switching between the cellular and Wi-Fi networks. Be careful, though, there are some limitations...

🏷 Provider approval: The hardware and service providers for mobile signal amplification must be approved by the respective provider. Furthermore, the system should be designed to accommodate other mobile operators as well.

💶 ROI: When is the business case actually profitable? In addition to high installation costs in the upper six-figure range, maintenance and operating costs must also be considered. For example, the building owner as the client should therefore consider appropriate compensation through the rental fee.

Conclusion 1: Hardware and service providers must be approved for the respective provider. A design for multiple providers is possible.

Conclusion 2: Due to the high investment amounts and risks, the planning should definitely be accompanied by a specialist company.
